Satellite Ravens’ debut record, The Equinox, was first imagined in mid-2013. Carson Rohde, fresh out of high school in Phoenix, Arizona, dreamed of creating a concept album that could keep up with the bands he loved, and prove that he could offer much more to the music world than simply being a bassist shoved to the back. Time was found to seed this future record while attending college full time at USC Thornton’s Popular Music Program and playing bass in several LA groups with members of Felly and Gyyps, Kid Bloom, the Goodkids, and Dreamers Dose.
Over 30 songs were written for potential inclusion, many of which were projects during his time at USC. Demos were made during college in LA, and many retreats during breaks to his Dad’s cabin in the forests of Northern Arizona’s Prescott. Michael “Senator” Soffa joined the production of the album in September 2017 after mutual collaborations and connections with the LA rock scene, and led to enlisting producer Aaron Burch, Soffa’s longtime family friend who also worked with Daawes. Sessions began at Buffalo Island Studios on March 16-19th March in Simi Valley, California, just outside of Los Angeles, and continued in Carson’s campus area apartment till his college graduation in early 2017. Over the next 9 months, he chaotically moved and travelled back and forth from Phoenix and Prescott Arizona, to couch-surfing with friends in LA while mixing and producing at Truman Lusson’s studio room in Santa Monica. Then in summer of 2017, found new solace and inspiration in the Oakland/SF Bay Area.
Three singles were released leading up to the album, “Encircled” on July 14th, 2017, “Suffocated” on November 9th, 2017, and “AfterThoughts” on February 2nd, 2018. The album was completed in January 2018, with mixing at Owl Cove Studios with Lewis Robertson in Berkley, California, and mastering in Toronto, Canada by Mario Lafleur’s Quantum Music.
The Equinox will be released on February 23rd, 2018. The band is in works to tour in late Spring and Summer 2018.
